About 5-10% of all cancers are thought to be due to a hereditary cancer syndrome.
Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) Syndrome due to mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes is one of the most common and well-known hereditary cancer syndromes. However, there are a number of other known hereditary cancer syndromes that cause breast, ovarian, colon, uterine, stomach, pancreas, thyroid, skin and many other types to cancer.
At the Center for BRCA Research and our Hereditary Cancer Clinic we see patients and their families who have all different types of hereditary cancer syndromes other than HBOC syndrome which include Lynch Syndrome, Li Fraumeni, Cowden Syndrome, Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer, and many more.
